Ever woken up, brewed your coffee, and thought to yourself 'this would taste great if it had avocado in it.'? No? On the off chance that you have, or you would like to, it's actually pretty good! That mild, creamy taste you are so happy to have on toast, or with eggs, pairs so well with milky and sweet flavours.

Everyone typically knows avocados to be for savoury food, but the more you stray outside of Europe or the States and head closer to places like Vietnam or Indonesia, the complete opposite is true!

Growing up in Bali, I found this delicious coffee drink at every corner I went to. Looking through the glass cabinet of the Warung trying to decide what to eat, and looking up to see the drinks menu, what's the first thing I see? Es Alpukat Kopi. Iced Avocado Coffee. 

Of course I didn't understand the appeal when I first saw it, I thought I read the menu wrong, or that my translation of what I read was just a little off and it couldn't actually say 'avocado coffee'. 

One day I saw one of my friends drinking this incredibly light green drink with streaks of chocolate and some ice. I was so intrigued that I just had to ask her what it was. This was the first time I had ever tasted something so sweet, that was perfectly balanced with crushed ice, and the light bitter taste of coffee in cutting right through. 

Using blended avocados, condensed milk, crushed ice, and strong bali coffee, the explosion of flavour and cream that coated my mouth was so addicting I ordered one right then and there. 

As the years went by and Indonesia developed, the demand for these got higher and higher. The constant stress and effort to get these smoothies ready for guests was overwhelming, and so the new form of Es Alpukat Kopi was born.
